Ready For the Boys

Aubrey Beardsley
I think, in our day and age, we should be able to reclaim some names for the boys that have been previously taken over by girls. Some of these are also pretty genderless, like Wren or Rowan, but seem to be exclusively used for girls, which I think is a shame. Which ones do you think could be used again, or should start being used? Which ones are lost forever?

  1. One of my biggest pet peeves is boy names being taken over by the girls! From your list, I know a little boy named Robin (so surprising to me, but I think I'd be surprised by it on a girl too these days too, at least in the US); Sawyer, Rory, Phoenix, Francis (this spelling), Lee (this spelling) are majority boy to me, though I know girls have used them. Sidney on an adult is male to me, while on a little one is female (and especially the spelling Sydney -- I've never seen that on a boy or a man). One I would add to your list, which is so painful to me, is Micah. I'd use it for a boy in a minute if I didn't know a girl with that name.

    1. Thank for leaving a comment! I didn't think about people using Micah as a girl's name! I really think it's very nice for a boy, too.

  2. I know a Robin Ernest, and his wife is Laurie-Robin. I think Laurie-Robina would make the name sound better and more like a women. Laurie and Lorie are masculine and have been used a nn for Laurence.

  3. You forgot one - my name (Kelly).

  4. A lot of these seem masculine to me, or are still pretty much boyish imo.
